(And How Chronic Stress Silently Fed My Fibroids Until They Were the Size of a Football)

I want to tell you something that nobody told me when my fibroids were growing. Something that would have saved me years of pain, confusion, and watching my belly expand like I was pregnant — when I wasn't.

Nobody told me that stress was feeding my fibroids like fertiliser.

Not the doctors. Not the consultants. Not the scan reports that kept showing 'significant growth.' Nobody.

By the time I truly understood what cortisol — your primary stress hormone — was doing inside my body, my fibroids had grown to the size of a football.

A football.

But here's where it gets dangerous for women with fibroids.

Cortisol triggers a cascade of effects that directly fuel fibroid growth:

  • It disrupts your oestrogen-progesterone balance — and fibroids are oestrogen-dominant tumours. More oestrogen chaos = more growth.
  • It drives systemic inflammation — the exact biological environment fibroids need to survive and expand.
  • It suppresses progesterone production — the very hormone that naturally counterbalances oestrogen and can slow fibroid growth.
  • It impairs your gut microbiome — and a damaged gut cannot eliminate excess oestrogen properly, meaning it recirculates and re-stimulates fibroid tissue.

I am a mum of three. What I call my three fibroid babies.
