Are you tired of putting that dress you love back into your closet?
I share here how I felt to be overweight and not knowing how I could move forward with my life without feeling stressed and confused.
Honestly, ladies Paying some attention to WHY and HOW we’re eating can improve your relationship with food and food choices. It can also support your digestion and gut health in the longer term. Sadly, paying attention is something that has fallen by the wayside in our current hectic lifestyles where we often prioritise multitasking and time saving over enjoying experiences.
The outcome? Often less satisfaction and an increased likelihood of experiencing digestive issues such as bloating. Eating mindfully means taking your time to enjoy and appreciate the food and the experience of eating; being aware of all the sensations involved – the sight, smell, taste, sound, and feel of the food.
Eating in this way gives the body more time to relax and prepare for digestion: there’s sufficient time for digestive enzymes to be released, blood flow to move to the stomach, and your ‘rest and digest’ nervous system to kick in and take the place of your ‘fight or flight’ nervous system.
Essentially, it means your digestive system can do what it needs to do more efficiently. Here are a few practical tips to get you started with eating mindfully:
- Sit down at the table to eat rather than standing at the cupboard or fridge or perching at your desk
- Get rid of any distractions like phones, laptops, clutter, magazines, work materials
- Put your food on a plate: make it look nice!
- Take a few deep belly breaths before starting to eat- Notice any smells, does your mouth start to water?
- Focus on the taste and feeling of the food in your mouth before your swallow it. Does it change the more your chew?
- Does it make a sound before or as you start to eat it?
- Notice the pace at which you eat
– could you slow this down, could you chew your food a few more times, and put down your cutlery between each mouthful? This may all feel a bit unnatural, to begin with, but with a bit of practice it will soon become second nature and you will reap the rewards of your new relationship with food.
Stay amazing!
